When I woke up this morning I decided I was going to take my current obsession with stripes to a whole new place: my finger tips. Why not, right?
Well, Babycakes had other thoughts, but more on that later.
So as soon as my little Ellie Bean was ready for her mid-morning nap, I hopped in the shower and then started in on my nails.
I decided to go gray because I’m in love with Essie’s Chinchilly and I thought it would be a good transition to fall.
For my stripe? Teal!… Only don’t tell Samantha because, as you can tell from the bottle, it’s hers (from Target)!
So I did two coats of gray before applying a diagonal stripe across each nail on my first hand. Of course, because it seems to be one of the Truths of Mommyhood, while the nails on hand one are still drying, the babe starts crying.
My little bean decided she wasn’t feeling this whole napping thing. So I’m left with one stripey hand to show off.
As you can see, the stripes could really use another coat since there’s some gray peeking through (and you can also see that not only did Ellie decide it was time to wake up, but she decided mommy can’t put her down).
That’s a pretty cute baby, if I do so myself. ๐
Needless to say, my attempts at a mani are already smudged (on the one hand that got done!). But it was a good practice run.
Next time I’m going to try using a toothpick to get a much thinner stripe so that I can add more of them!
Do you have any at-home mani tips?
I really love the way the stripe looks. You picked a great color combination. It looks really cute, and I think I juuuuuust may have to steal this idea from you! ๐

do it bonnie!
i’m still walking around with one hand striped. i at least got the gray on the other one!
Oh my gosh, can’t be mad after seeing that little face!
I love the idea and think it came out pretty great actually. I like the combo, especially the chinchilly.
I’m not a big home manicure person for that exact reason but if I do it, I make sure to have a Q-tip and polish remover to fix the sloppy excess ๐
yes! i could’ve used both!
i’m a lefty and did my left hand first thinking that i’d show off my right hand after getting a little practice in on the left. but my little sweet cheeks had other plans!
I agree! CUTE BABY! what a doll. She makes the mani look great! Love that nail color too
No one will notice the messy at-home job with a cute baby to stare at, right? haha!
