Since becoming an ambassador for thredUP, a women’s and children’s online consignment shop, I started putting together a little outfit inspiration board on Pinterest. I share my favorite looks from that board on Facebook once a week, which has made me pay much closer attention to the things I’ve pinned (because, let’s be honest, I usually forget about my pins 3 seconds after I save them).
One of the things that has surprised me is that I apparently have an obsession with ankle boots.
I don’t know about you, but what I immediately notice here is a whole lot of denim, neutrals, stripes, and lots and lots of ankle boots.
This is kind of weird for a couple of reasons:
- I never would have realized I had a thing for ankle boots if I hadn’t noticed how many outfits I had pinned that included them.
- I can guarantee you that if I saw them in the store I would’ve walked right passed them.
Why? Well, they can be kind of boring looking. Plain. Ho hum. But something about seeing them paired with full outfits totally changed my mind. Now I’ve found myself stealthily seeking them out.
You know how you can go online to look for a very specific birthday present and then, fifteen minutes later, find yourself ordering a full set of new towels? Well that’s what I’ve been doing. Only, when I shake myself out of my stupor, I realize I’m thisclose to ordering shoes I didn’t know I was looking for.

Another shocker? The looks I’m drawn to go from black/gray to a caramel-y brown. Whaaaat? I can only think of one thing that I own that’s brown. Maybe I need to change that.
I do know two things for sure: I’m not feeling the whole cowgirl looking boot (because, uh, horses) and I am not looking for something that looks like it should be worn by a male banker on his morning commute. Also, the heel should be low because I have little to no balance to begin with and am regularly tackled by a four year old.
Are you in love with ankle boots? Tell me your secrets. Mostly: what brand do you swear by and can I get them for cheap?
PS If you end up ordering boots (or anything else for that matter) through thredUP you can get $10 off your first and second orders with my extra special referral link. You’re welcome. 😉
