Since we’re heading into holiday crunch time, I thought it would be fun to highlight some of my favorite small business Instagram accounts. I follow a lot of them. I actually didn’t realize how many until I sat down to put this post together.
Personally, I’m not a fan of accounts that are nothing but product shilling. I totally get that Instagram accounts are a marketing tool. But my favorite accounts are a mix of business and personal. They make us feel like we know the people behind the business and sometimes give us a little look at their process—which, actually works for the business because it totally builds loyalty.
Here are a few that I love.
Ivory K
Equal parts business and family—Kate has adorable curly-haired babies that give me major hair envy—this feed is the perfect mix of marketing and personality. While I love Kate’s wire wrap headbands and her cute baby girl shoes, I love getting a look at the woman behind the business even more.
Like Kate, Amanda also shows a whole lot of personality—and girlfriend keeps it real. I love that mixed in with shots of the adorable kids apparel she makes (with cool vintage fabric!) she includes more personal shots like this one with the caption: wore this tee yesterday, slept in it, and now making a trip to target in it. a girl has to live up to the words, right?! #livingreallifemakesmeradasf. Other bonuses? She loves emojis as much as I do and regularly shows off the wares of other small business owners.
This bad ass momma is currently pregnant and I love that her feed reflects it. Along with photos of her adorable kids clothing line (and some of her super cute customers), Amy also features pictures of her pregnancy cravings (like this bagel sandwich) and nesting activities.
These guys (who happen to have excellent taste in music) make fab hand-drawn screen-printed clothing, pillows and totes. Their feed is full of gorgeous shots of customers wearing their products as well as some inspirational quotes (which I love, obvi). I think my favorite part are the captions, which are often quotes or pop culture references that make me laugh.
If you need a little jolt of positivity every so often, this is the shop for you. With products that say things like “good vibes only” and “stay positive” you can’t really help but feel good. Sera mixes outfit inspiration and customer photos with dreamy filters that make everything feel like sunshine and happiness.
I can’t get enough of Giulia’s (also dreamy!) photos. With muted colors and perfect styling, her photos are so calming. She shows off lots of shots of her wool and cotton products in progress as well as other behind the scenes type photos. They all make me want to make a cup of cocoa and learn to knit myself.
Maker of funny hand-drawn paper goods, Julie Ann’s feed is full of bright colors and gorgeously styled photos—whether it’s a photo of her product or her feet and her dog, Penny.
