Gift Guide | BFF

galentine's day

Fun fact: three of my closest friends (and my husband) have birthdays between January 12th and February 7th. Does that mean I have a type?

Another fun fact: February 13th is Galentine’s Day, a totally made up and awesome holiday featured on Parks and Recreation. On this glorious day, Amy Poehler’s character and her BFFs celebrate each other with breakfast and elaborate gifts (like mosaic portraits of each of the girls made from the crushed bottles of their favorite diet sodas). Celebrating female friendship needs to be a thing.

The combination of these two fun facts means that gifts for my favorite gals are on my mind pretty hardcore right now. What better way to deal with it than put together an awesome list of gifts for your BFF(s)?

That’s right. NONE.

30 Gluten Free Meal Ideas

30 gluten free meal ideas

Before I even get started on this post, I want to make it clear that I’m not telling everyone they should run off and live a gluten free life. It’s not easy to go gluten free (the stuff is in everything from bread and some cheese products to soy sauce and salad dressing) and if you don’t have an issue digesting it, there’s no reason to go crazy and remove it completely.

That said, going gluten free does remove a lot of crap from your diet—but mostly because you eat more clean. Most of the recipes I’ve included here don’t require you to go out and buy expensive gluten free substitutes (which are sometimes loaded with sugar). It’s a lot of real, whole foods that will fill your belly without feeling bad about what you eat.

Yum | Portabello Pizza

easy portabello pizza

It’s no secret that I rarely cook. I’m not very good at it, which frustrates me and only makes my feeble attempts at culinary excellence infinitely worse. My husband, on the other hand, enjoys cooking and happens to be way more talented at anything kitchen-related (except for washing dishes. He totally sucks at washing dishes—probably on purpose).

So when I do actually cook something, it should come as no surprise that it is always an insanely easy something (see: zucchini pasta). My latest obsession? Portabello pizza.

Etsy Finds | Fun Holiday Decor

etsy finds | fun holiday decor

Sometimes I feel like my taste is in a constant battle with itself. I’m absolutely drawn to things that are classic. Audrey Hepburn. Stripes. Clean lines. I really love these things.

But I also really like quirky. Like, a lot. A little pop of color, a little sparkle, a little razzmatazz to catch your attention, possibly confuse you a little, and infuse a bit of fun.

Sometimes these two loves don’t get along. In fact, sometimes they clash pretty hardcore. But then there are the times when classic and quirky meet and the skies clear and angels sing at their perfect marriage. Those are the things I try to hold out for. It doesn’t always work, but it’s fun to try!

I scoured Etsy trying to find a nice mix of classic and quirky holiday decor that works without seeming too clashy. At least I think so. Feel free to tell me I’m wrong in the comments. 😉

Can we agree that getting something special in the mail—and I mean fun special not jury duty special—is exciting no matter what age you are? Then why not make someone you love happy not just one time, but stretch that feeling out over a few months by gifting them a subscription box service? There are tons of options out there, but I’ve rounded up five for you here.

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
