Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day gift guide

I love an excuse to put together a gift guide. And you know I love mommas. I combined these two loves to put together a pretty, relaxing, springtastic collection of pieces that would be perfect for just about any woman in your life.

From things to prettify herself to things that help prettify her world, these gifts encourage busy mommas to take a step back, relax and enjoy the little things a bit more–and I think we could all use a healthy dose of that.

Mother's Day gift guide

Kitchen Garden Cookbook :: Wen Healthy Hair kit :: Gap scarf :: L.A.R.K. Spark clutch :: atiliay succulent block print :: Williams-Sonoma Meyer Lemon Caldrea Gift Set :: Anthropologie trowel :: The Merriweather Council embroidered necklace :: Kate Spade scallop thin bangle :: Kate Spade mom idiom bangle

I’ll take all of them, if that works… although I’d probably hand off the cookbook to my husband with all of the recipes I want to taste bookmarked for future consideration. 😉

Alright, mommas. I want to know: what’s at the top of your wishlist for this Mother’s Day?

Kitchen Adventures | Sweet Potato Banana Pancakes

gluten free paleo sweet potato banana pancake

My husband’s friend and his wife are on the Paleo diet (also known as the caveman diet, for anyone who is already lost). Basically, they don’t eat grains, legumes, dairy and refined sugars. I find it totally interesting and whenever I see recipes for Paleo stuff my interest is usually piqued. Major problem? Everyone knows I’m a sugar freak.

Anyway, the other day Jess (the wife for those keeping track) put a picture up on Instagram of sweet potato banana waffles. Um, yes please was my immediate reaction. I love all of those things.

So I tried it. And while two attempts at waffles were seriously charred and inedible, I emerged triumphant with a batch of sweet potato banana pancakes.

Eco-Friendly Organization

eco-friendly organization ideas

Let’s be real, people. If you’ve read a handful of my posts, you know this momma is cheap. I don’t mean it in a bad, two dollar hooker kind of way. I just mean if I can save a buck (or ten) you better believe I will.

Luckily this works nicely with my desire to be nice to the world we live in. I mean, the whole reduce, reuse, recycle mantra should tell you straight off the bat that thriftiness is an eco-friendly lady’s best weapon.

Since Earth Day is next Monday, I thought I’d let my inner granola-crunching, tree-hugging hippie run wild and show off a few of my favorite eco-friendly organization tips.

Etsy Finds: April Showers

etsy finds: buligaia embroidery hoop

April showers bring May flowers.

Well, as long as those showers aren’t of the fluffy, white variety, I’m totally cool with that. Better yet if they’re in the form of cute handmade goods instead of the real wet stuff.

I’m not sure what it is about clouds and raindrops in product form, but I find them unbearably adorable. Whether they wear smiling faces or not, something about them makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Which is weird considering the real wet stuff does nothing for me–unless making my hair fuzzy counts (I don’t really think it does).

Anyway, the onset of April sent me on a hunt for handmade rain-themed pieces. I rounded up a bunch of my favorites for this edition of Etsy Finds:

Etsy Finds: Spring Has Sprung

Etsy Finds: Wild Ridge Design wreath

It’s starting to look like spring is planning to peek out from behind the snow here in New York this week. With sunny, near fifty degree days in the forecast, we’re all breathing a tiny sigh of relief and crossing fingers that warmer temperatures are on the way.

To build off that little glimmer of hope, I went on an Etsy hunt for pretty, colorful spring pieces. Here’s what I found:

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
