Paperback Posse | March’s Virtual Book Club Pick

virtual book club pick | the silent sister

virtual book club pick | the silent sisterOur people have spoken! This month’s virtual book pick is The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain—apparently we are a group that really loves a good mysterious plot!

A couple of the girls in our group have already read (or just started!) this one and their opinions seem to be unanimous: it’s good stuff.

If you’re not part of our little posse and you’d like to join in, the more the merrier! We have a pretty active Facebook group where we discuss the books—and any other books we might be reading.

Discussion questions for this one will start rolling out here and in our group on Wednesday, April 1st. I can’t wait to get started!

PS If you’re looking for discussion questions for last month’s pick, The Girl on the Train, they’ll be live in a couple of hours! A post with the full list of questions will publish later this morning and I’ll start posting them in our Facebook page this afternoon!

Paperback Posse | March book club choices

It’s book picking time!

Usually, I’m too busy wondering how book vote time snuck up on me so quickly to think of anything else. And don’t get me wrong, it totally snuck up on me. But I’m so excited to talk about The Girl on the Train that I don’t even care. It was so good!

Here’s to hoping March’s pick is just as fantastic!

I tried to change things up a little this month, so I have a couple of intense sounding picks, a romantic comedy and a memoir to choose from…

The Girl on the Train discussion questions

February's book club pick | The Girl on the Train

The people have spoken! This month’s pick is Paula Hawkins’s brand spanking new debut, The Girl on the Train. Everything I’ve read about it says it’s the type of story that sucks you in and takes you on a crazy ride. Hopefully that means we get into it more than Unbreakable!

Please note: there is another, different book called Girl on a Train. It is not the same book. There’s only one cover for the book that we’re reading (it just came out on January 13th) and it’s the one pictured above.

Also, this month was different in that the other three books ended up in a tie for second place—kind of crazy, right?! Since you guys seemed pretty interested in them as well, I thought I’d ask which titles (if any) you’d like to see as options for next month’s pick. The other choices were The Paying Guests, Boy, Snow, Bird, and The Late Lamented Molly Marx. If you want to see a quick summary of each in one place, you can check out my post on this month’s choices.

I’ll start posting discussion questions for Unbreakable in the Facebook group this afternoon!

It’s that time again! Last month’s pick (Unbroken) was one that a lot of us had trouble getting into (…or even opening, HA!). You can’t win em all, right? Hopefully this month will get us all back in the game.

Check out the choices below and vote for your favorite. I’ll announce the winner next Sunday in our Facebook group (it’s a closed group so that it doesn’t take over our newsfeeds when we get excited about something. If you want in, just request to join and I’ll add you!).

For any of you who are following along with our book club silently or lurking in the shadows, I want you to know we’re still going strong! Since most (OK, all) of our discussion goes down in our Facebook group, I’ve decided not to post discussion questions on the blog any more, but I will announce each month’s read here in a mini post. (So if you want in on our Mother, Mother discussions, head on over to Facebook!)

This month (in a super tight race), we’ve decided on Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. I’m totally excited to start this one—Semple wrote for Arrested Development which is one of my favorite quirky comedies in the history of ever.

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
