It’s no secret that I’m a fan of small businesses. But combine small businesses, sustainable goods and fair trade and this girl’s ears are perked. Enter Anni Metz, a Chicago girl who provides design and marketing services for social enterprises and sustainable businesses to help grow their brands. You better believe I wanted to know more.
For me, part of the draw of writing and working freelance is that I can do it any time from anywhere. Leanne Garrity, the talented maker and designer behind Chi Chi Dee Handmade, is sort of the embodiment of that dream. Born in England, raised in Australia and recently relocated to a tiny little village in the Alps after a decade in London, Leanne seems to have the whole go-with-the-flow vibe down pat.
I love her work and the incredibly laid back vibe she seems to radiate, so I couldn’t wait to hear what she had to say about business.
I love a story about a girl who sees a need and makes it her mission to fill it. Lacey Ellis is that kind of woman. The Art and Creative Director for various agencies for ten years, Lacey realized after having her son that there was no good way to capture the hilarious (and sometimes profound) things that kids say. Wanting to preserve those special memories and help other families share their stories, Lacey started LittleHoots, a really fun app and memory-keeping platform.
I’m totally excited to share her thoughts on business and balance and all of that good stuff with you today…
Have you ever seen photos of a product and immediately known exactly who the maker was? Not because of flashy logos or a familiar face but because the product is branded so fantastically that there’s no room for doubt.
That’s how I feel about Tamar Schechner’s work. Tamar is the creative genius behind Nest Pretty Things, a gorgeous brand of handmade jewelry and accessories for women (and kids!) that’s romantic and bohemian with a bright, modern twist.
The styling and overall aesthetic of Tamar’s work is unmistakable. I heeded to get into her brain and I’m so excited that she agreed to a Girl Boss interview!
I’ve been friends with the super sweet and talented Jackie Foley for a few years now. We met one day at her studio with baby Ellie bundled in her stroller to talk business and discuss the possibility of collaborating together (in my experience, the best business meetings are the ones that you can bring your toddler to 😉 ).
Jackie is a wedding and lifestyle photographer (see my picture in the sidebar there? That’s her handiwork) and I had been the editor of a regional wedding blog for a while, where I eagerly featured her gorgeous work. With similar tastes and a mutual love of food, we decided that working on a project together was kind of a must. After a little back and forth (and a lot of food), Bijou, an online wedding magazine with an emphasis on love, was born.
In the years since our little project, I have watched Jackie’s business flourish—this girl is always traveling somewhere for a shoot—and I’ve watched her juggle a whole lot on her plate in the process. When I started thinking about small business-owning ladies who seemed to define #girlboss, Jackie was a given.
I’m so excited to give you a little peek at the girl behind the business.
