I’m a little bit of an Instagram addict. I mean, I love it. I do. But there are times when I don’t love it. Like when everything is looking pristine and smiley and happy as I scroll through and I’m over here in yesterday’s yoga pants trying to break up a fight over who touched who in a mean way. Celeb moms on Instagram can really make me feel like shit. Some of them have feeds full of gorgeously curated photos taken by what must be a professional photographer with captions like “My heart!” or “This is what life’s all about!” And while that’s totally true, it can make a momma feel like a total failure when she just wants five seconds without anyone touching her.
That leads me to today’s post. Today, I want to celebrate the celeb moms on Instagram who keep it real. I mean really real. The mommas who show us that life isn’t all bright, perfectly aligned smiles and children who look like they frolicked out of an ad campaign. Today is all about the famous moms who give us a tiny glimpse of real life.
8 Awesomely Honest Celeb Moms on Instagram
So, I couldn’t choose just one Jessica Biel photo. The woman cracks me up. She posts what seem to be average, run-of-the-mill photos and then captions them with hilarious observations or commentary that show that she gets it. She knows that the struggle is real and, while she loves it, she recognizes the not-so-glamorous bits of life that go hand in hand with motherhood.
As you can tell, Pink rides the highs and lows of motherhood just like the rest of us. In one post, she’s buried under a baby sandwich looking tired but feeling so much love. In the next, she’s straight up exhausted and feeling it. THIS is what real motherhood is like, people!
Chrissy Teigen is the Queen of Getting It. She may be a supermodel married to a gorgeous, award-winning singer, but she knows motherhood struggles like the rest of us. What got me most about this post was the caption: “This diaper is never not blue so don’t even start with me.” Spoken like a woman who has faced the cold hard reality of mommy judgment.
Even Drew Barrymore can’t escape the Kid’s Crap Takeover. Her bathtub surrounded by princesses looks like the bathroom of just about every one of my mom friends.
Jessica Simpson gets it too. There is no taming kids stuff! All of those beautiful, immaculate photos you see don’t show you the pile of crap in the corner that had to be moved in order to get a clean shot. I love that these ladies are showing us that it’s not just us!
If you tell me this picture of Molly Sims didn’t make you laugh, I don’t think we can be friends. I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly trying to pee or shower or do just about anything remotely related to self care alone. It’s not easy… but it helps if you laugh!

Olivia Wilde looks exactly how I feel after a kids birthday party. I love that she didn’t fix her hair or try to get a perfect shot. This is as real as it gets, friends.
Amber Tamblyn‘s milk-stained shirt could be any of ours. Whether your swollen boobs are leaking at the sound of anything remotely similar to a baby’s cry or you’ve been spit up on one too many times, we’ve all been there. And it doesn’t smell particularly good.
If there are any celeb moms on Instagram who you follow and who I didn’t mention here, let me know! I’m always looking for honest mommas to commiserate with.
