Mindy Kaling

I have a major girl crush on Mindy Kaling. Like MAJOR. And since season two of The Mindy Project starts tonight, I thought this would be the best possible time to force you onto my bandwagon. That way you’ll be bored tonight and you’ll decide to flip it on and then tomorrow morning you’ll be all sorority girl excited and ready to recap the episode’s events as if it were last night’s frat party. Or not. But you’ll definitely be way into it and thanking me for it at the very least.

So this post is mostly about my Mindy crush, but since she writes and stars in The Mindy Project (Jon Stewart calls her a triple threat since she is a writer, actor, and producer), it can’t help but be a love letter to that too.

My husband calls the show “twee.” I call him a jerk. Let’s be real here. He watches every episode with me (albeit fake begrudgingly) and has been known to giggle (yes, giggle) at some of the jokes. Why? Well, because…

Mindy Kaling

1. Mindy Kaling is straight up hilarious.

Whether you follow her Twitter feed, check out her posts on Instagram, read her book or compulsively do all three (cough, like me), I guarantee the girl will make you laugh. Her random musings and pop culture references get me every time.

There are things like silly garden musings:

There is celebrity crushing:

There are behind the scenes goodies:

She makes the rest of us feel slightly better about our poor food choices:

2. The Mindy Project? Also straight up hilarious.

To be honest, Mindy herself is just a part of the puzzle. The Mindy Project has made me love her about a million times more. Mindy Lahiri (the character she plays) is awesome in so many ways. Yes, she can be ditzy and vapid and materialistic. We laugh at her during those moments.

But she’s also a self-conscious, goal-oriented career woman, a minority, and a curvy lady who gets her fair share of men. I happen to think that’s a pretty awesome combination of traits. She’s flawed, but she’s strong. She could be your BFF. Shit, she could be you.

3. She gets it.

Call me lazy, but I think this section is best told in gif and/or photo form (click through any of the pics in this post for more Mindy gems).

To me she’s the perfect combination of awkward, self conscious nerd to successful fashionista (kind of like Mindy Lahiri). She never tips too far in one direction, which keeps her endearing. You’ll have to check her show out for yourself and let me know what you think!

Are you on the Mindy Kaling bandwagon? Or do we have to break up?
