girls room: striped walls

I love having girls. Aside from the insanely adorable clothes and doing fun things together like getting manicures or playing with glitter, there’s the fun of decorating their space.

We’re going to be moving in the near future and although we’re staying local, it’ll be a big adjustment. For one, the ladies will be sharing a room. They’re pretty excited about it. I’m a little leery about the whole sleeping thing (more importantly, the staying asleep thing) and storage, so I took to the internets and did a little exploring  for girls room inspiration. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a lot of fun.

girls room: striped walls

Samantha reeeeeally wants striped walls. If I left it completely up to her, I’m sure she’d pick two colors that don’t go together at all. I know she’s on the pink bandwagon at the moment, so I would love it if I could talk her into doing pink and white stripes like Sarah at A Little of This, A Little of That did in her girls’ room. It’s both fun and modern–plus I’m kind of a stripeaholic.

girls room: embroidery hoop wall art

Our house is pretty much one big explosion of pink and purple (I can’t help it if I have girly girls!) and I’d like to add some other colors to that mix. I think finding pretty fabric and displaying it in embroidery hoops like Aedriel did is a brilliant way of adding color. Even better, it incorporates Ellie’s love of circles and polka dots into the space.

girls room: mermaid print by Sarah Jane StudiosSamantha is obsessed with mermaids right now and this print by Sarah Jane Studios is an absolute must. Not only is it beautiful on its own, but Sam’s mermaid obsession came from reading the Emily Windsnap book series. In the last book Emily meets a magical narwhal. Sam would absolutely flip if she saw this print.

girls room: small space book storageSpeaking of books, the girls have a lot of them. We are most definitely going to need some storage solutions in that area. I love what Sarah of Daffodil Design did by utilizing wall space–especially a small wall like this one that can’t really function for much else. I am most definitely going to take to the walls!

girls room: book nookbohemian girls room: floor cushionsI also want to continue to encourage their love of reading and books by making sure there are fun, comfy areas for them to curl up with a book (no markers allowed, Ellie). I’m loving both this little canopied space by How Does She? and the idea of floor cushions with lots of pillows from One Claire Day. More importantly, I’m pretty sure the girls will love them too.

girls room: play stageI don’t think we’ll have space for this, but how fun would it be to turn a corner into a little stage? Such a cute idea from Liz Carroll Interiors. Samantha would absolutely eat that up (and perform all day, every day).

girls room: gallery wall with chalkboardLastly, my girls love getting crafty. I want to make sure they have a designated area where they can go wild–and where I can display their creations. I love this wall idea from Kimba at A Soft Place to Land. Not only does it show off the kids’ artwork, but it allows them to make short term masterpieces (or play school!) underneath. My girls would love this!

Pinterest wins again with all of these inspiring finds. Where do you go for home decor inspiration? I’m on the prowl!
