At this point it should be pretty clear that I’m obsessed with green smoothies, right? I drink one for breakfast just about every morning and sometimes have them as snacks. Like most people, I was a little skeptical about them at first and was both thrilled and pleasantly surprised when I finally cracked and tried one.
And I’m not the only one who is crazy about these things. In fact, one of my most popular posts was one on smoothie recipes. Since it was posted, I’ve had readers (strangers, friends, family, just about anyone) contact me to ask me to share some more.
I experimented a little and am totally excited about what I came up with…
I wanted to mix things up a little because feeling like I’m in a food rut is the first thing that makes me dip my hand into a bag of chocolate chips and shove them into my face. A little bit of variety helps fend off Rutsville–and the fat pants that go along with it.
So here’s what I came up with…
Green tea fruity smoothie
- 1 1/2 cups of green tea (one mug full)
- a cup of blueberry Greek yogurt
- handful of kale
- a few handfuls of mixed fruit
I’m absolutely in love with Lipton’s Blackberry & Pomegranate green tea right now and, since green tea is so good for you, I figured I’d up the ante and add it to my smoothies. Now, to be honest, I would have preferred to have added mixed berries instead of mixed fruit. But I didn’t have any and when you don’t have any, you just make do, right? Luckily, it came out tasting mighty delicious.
Orange creamsicle
- 1 c orange juice
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 apple
- handful of spinach
- splash of vanilla extract
This is my kind of smoothie. It tastes like dessert but it’s actually really healthy and jam-packed with nutrients. Plus, if you didn’t see what color it was you would really think you were drinking a melted orange creamsicle.
To get your consistency right: add a little ice if there’s too much liquid or add some almond milk if it’s too thick.
Green Piña Colada
- 1 cup coconut milk
- few handfuls of pineapple
- handful of spinach
- ice
- shredded coconut (optional)
If you’ve jumped on board my coconut bandwagon (or if you just like fruity drinks that remind you of the beach), this one is definitely for you. It is so light and refreshing. I can already tell that it’s going to turn into my go-to this summer.
The one thing I plan on experimenting with is adding a frozen banana. I didn’t have one this time, but I have a feeling it would make it creamier without messing with the taste. I can’t wait to try it out!
Oooh the creamsicle one sounds really good, but I’ll have to close my eyes while drinking it 🙂
Hahaha! I promise you won’t be able to tell the difference. Maybe these would help: http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/sunglasses/rb3407/003-69 😉
Ooooh, I have to try these! And I never thought to put tea in my smoothies! The possibiities!!!
Seriously! I think I’m going to have a big pitcher of green tea at the ready all summer! And if you haven’t tried my beloved power fruit tea you MUUUUUUUST!
Yum! I just started having daily green smoothies. I’ve been getting recipes from simplegreensmoothies.com. Some are more of a purplish-pink color I guess. My husband says it looks like I’m drinking barf, but whatever. 😉
Hahaha! It’s so true! If you add a little more blueberries it will keep it purple and if you use less strawberries it will keep it from getting barfy colored.
If you don’t mind the color, it doesn’t matter, but otherwise it’s like doing a science/art experiment!
