love letters | wedding vows

Since it’s Valentine’s Day I decided to skip the regular Weekend Links and add my own Love Letter to this month’s series.

I’ve written about my love story ad nauseam, so I thought I’d spare you the details of retelling how we met, what we think of each other and how we manage to not kill each other. Instead, I stumbled upon my wedding vows and thought they were kind of perfect for a day like today.

So, this post goes out to the boy with the long lashes, my College Crush and partner in the Couch Potato Olympics. You’re a huge pain in my ass but I love you oodles…

You are my very own personal chef; my living, breathing alarm clock; the piece of string I forget to tie around my finger; my sounding board; my love; my best friend.

You have the ability to drive me completely mad, yet I can’t envision my future without you.

I love that for no reason at all you make me candlelit dinners.

I love that you know when I should get up and go to bed before I do.

I love that you sometimes talk to Samantha in a voice that was previously reserved for your cat.

I love that you make me laugh when it’s the last thing I think I can do.

I love that you’re superstitious—but only when it comes to baseball.

I love that you’re obsessed with the length and cleanliness of your fingernails, yet you leave the house wearing Crocs with socks.

I love and appreciate all of your silly little idiosyncrasies because without them, my life would be much more boring—and without them, you wouldn’t be you.

We see the world from two entirely different perspectives. While your feet are firmly planted on the ground, I tend to get lost in the clouds. For a lot of people, this type of match wouldn’t work. The clashing points of view would get in the way and overshadow the areas where they do intersect. But we work through it. We truly care about each other and work to make each other happy.

It is in this spirit that I promise to at least attempt to keep track of how many glasses of water I have floating around the house.

I promise to try and get a better grip on measurements of time.

I promise to tell you what I’m thinking when I’m thinking it, so that I don’t sound like a raving lunatic later.

But even more importantly, I promise to always take care of you when you’re sick or feeling down.

I promise to encourage you to grow and to stand by you through whatever storms come our way.

I promise to be your confidant, your partner in crime, your best friend.

I promise to be yours and only yours forever.
