Our master bedroom has always been one of the most overlooked places in our house. Tucked away upstairs, it’s not a spot that many guests see (unless they’re tiny humans running through our room while playing with my daughters). Couple that with the fact that it doubles as an office for both my husband and myself and you’ve got a room that is super easy to flat out give up on.
How can you make a space that serves so many different functions cozy? Well, I made it my mission to at least makeover the area surrounding our tired bed (which, as you’ll see below was devoid of any personality).
Master Bedroom Refresh
For starters, the wall art above the bed was way too small for the space and seemed completely out of place. There were no similar colors or shapes on any other piece in our bedroom. I decided to replace it with a big bohemian wall tapestry that made me feel like the heart eye emoji the second I saw it.
Next, I decided to switch out our quilt for a white raw-edge beauty with matching shams with the hope of layering texture and color that played off the tapestry. I found a few blankets and throw pillows that did the trick and added a hygge vibe to a space that had just seemed so blah.
Last, I attacked our mismatched bedside tables. They’ve become a sort of catchall area that collects books and cups and lotions and toys from every single occupant in the house. There’s nothing calming about a teetering pile of stuff right next to your bed while you try to fall asleep. So I got rid of all of it.
In its place, I added what might be my favorite part of this whole bedroom refresh: a foil pressed print from Minted that includes a snippet from one of the Pablo Neruda poems that were read at our wedding. It adds the perfect finishing touch to a space that seems so much more cozy.
