mix and match bathing suits

It’s that time of year again. After months of hibernation and face stuffing (because of all of the winter holidays and because no one will notice the five extra pounds of chub under all of those layers) it’s time to think about bathing suits. Yikes.

I already had one bathing suit try-on fest. My ego is still more than a little bruised and battered from it, but I need to get back on the (stupid) horse. I always try to avoid the whole bathing suit process, telling myself I just want to lose five more pounds before I look for some. But then I inevitably wait too long and there are slim pickings left and I’m miserable.

So, this year, I’m going to be prepared. I want to get a few tops and bottoms that can be mixed and matched into seemingly endless combinations. I’m thinking bright colors with a few classic patterns (stripes and polka dots for life!).

Full disclosure: while the belly baring tops above are super cute, I will definitely not be wearing them. This belly will be covered, thankyouverymuch. Still, they were really cute so I figured I should share with my belly baring friends.

Also, this is sort of related, but I noticed something kind of disturbing as I was window shopping. I kept stopping to look at plus-sized and maternity suits, as if they’d be perfect for me. But I’m not plus sized.

I generally wear a size 8. So why do I have a plus-sized brain? Is it that everything seems so skimpy? Is it that the models are skimpy? Is it that I don’t see myself realistically or a combination of all of these possibilities?

Has anyone else out there had a similar experience? I’d be interested to see what you guys think. (And, you know, what you think of the bathing suits too).
