striped wall

Can I whine for a second?

We’re in the (painfully slow) process of moving and before we get in, I wanted to slap a fresh coat of paint on the bedroom walls. I spent roughly sixteen hours painting (or prepping to paint) this weekend. And I’m not done.

Seriously. My body is sore. I have paint in places that I never dreamed of. And I’m not done.

It’s kind of my fault. Sam decided she wanted one pink and white striped wall in their room and one purple wall. I can’t give these girls everything their little hearts desire—like a trip to Disney World (at least not yet) or an unlimited budget in the American Girl doll store—but I can give them a striped wall, damn it!

striped wallOnly I didn’t fully realize what an enormous pain in the ass that would be. The taping! Sweet Jesus, the taping! And don’t even get me started on the almost constant measuring of said tape to make sure that the lines stayed nice and straight. Or the fact that my brother came in to look at it and said “You realize they’re droopy, right?” It took everything in me not to impale him with a paint roller.

Like most projects that I start and end up cursing halfway through, the inspiration for this one came from Pinterest. Remember that post I did a month or two ago on girls room decor inspiration? Well the stripe obsession brought on by Sarah of A Little of This, A Little of That remained in full force. Sam even ended up picking a pink that was almost exactly the same as the one in Sarah’s daughters’ room. And she went with another color for the rest of the walls like they did (read: more tape).

Looking at Sarah’s post, I’m encouraged a little because the room looks amazing. Once we get all of my ladies’ stuff set up in there, I’m confident it will look pretty fab too—but for now I just want to cry a little at the thought of painting more (the girls’ closet needs a second coat and I have to finish painting their trim and then our new room needs another coat).

One thing is for sure: next time something needs painting I’m calling a professional!

Have you ever started a DIY project and wished you hadn’t once you were halfway through?
