Watching: House of Cards
Guys. This show. OMG.
So, so good. So incredibly well done. So many complicated, imperfect characters. This season is quite possibly the best one yet. My husband and I finished it a week or so ago and I’m still shaking like a junkie coming off of her high. I NEED MORE NOOOOOOOW.
Also: Robin Wright? I love her hardcore.
Wearing: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking
I’ve never really been a big lipstick girl, mostly because I’ve never been able to get it to stay put. But after seeing some seriously fabulous matte lips on the red carpet lately (very specifically Margot Robbie at the Oscars), I was inspired to branch out of my All Gloss All the Time zone and try something new. And I think I’m in love.
I still haven’t one hundred percent decided if this look is me or not, but for now a teensy little swipe of lip color is going a long way in making me feel more put together and less like the dirty hippie I actually am. 😉
Drinking: Tazo cocoa mint maté
If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw that I posted about this delicious tea the other day. My husband picked it up for me after I ran out of my favorite peppermint tea and I fell madly in love (I’m falling in love a lot in this post, aren’t I?). For you chocolate mint lovers, it’s absolutely delicious and not at all overpowering.
I’m also a huge fan of Tazo branding—especially their fabulous copywriting:
“Cocoa peel throws a party. Shy peppermint shows up early, hides in the corner. When extroverted spearmint bursts in, licorice root is already making eyes at honeybush. Dark and mysterious, yerba maté arrives in a gourd, speaking softly in that beautiful South American accent.”
I am so intensely jealous that I didn’t write that.
Eating: Too much chocolate. Thanks, Easter.
Listening to: Nothing Without Love
Nate Ruess (the lead singer of fun.) released a solo song and I can’t stop listening to it. His voice makes me feel all of the feels. If you stop next to me at a red light and see me seriously belting out a song, I can guarantee you it’s this one. Or maybe that new Rihanna song that makes me sing too loudly. But probably this one.
My kids also happen to be big, big fans. Ellie requests it almost nightly and dances around (preferably naked) while she’s getting ready for bed.
Reading: The Princess in Black by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale
Ellie has been obsessed with the idea of this book since she saw it in a Scholastic catalog that came home from school with Samantha. It started with her reminding me gently not to forget to get her “dat ninja girl book” and morphed into squeals when she recognized it on the shelf at Barnes and Noble.
I wasn’t so sure a newly minted four year old could handle a chapter book (no matter how beginner it might be), but her enthusiasm totally convinced me to pick up a copy for her birthday—and she loved every last second of it! It goes to show you that you shouldn’t let your thoughts of what kids can handle dictate everything. Sometimes it pays to go with the flow and trust them.
Dreaming of: A vacation. On a beach. With a babysitter.
