Have you guys seen the cute little “skater dresses” that are starting to crop up? I noticed them on ASOS mostly because they call them that there, but I’ve seen them made by Zara, Kate Spade, Tibi and many others.

They’re basically dresses that are fitted in the bodice with big, flouncy full skirts. And I’m in love. The name skater dress is obviously a reference to the more demure figure skating costunes, although these dresses also remind me of a modernized 1950s housewife (and I’m a sucker for the classics!).

The cut of this dress is awesome for a variety of reasons. It’s fun and flirty (who doesn’t love that?). It’s sort of a new silhouette with references to the past. But most importantly, this cut will work for so many different women!

Have a tummy you’re trying to hide? Go for one with a higher waist. The full skirt will camouflage your pooch! Did all of that holiday food go right to your thighs? The skirt’s got that in check too. Have the opposite problem and need a little extra curve? Got it.

I’m seriously in love with this cut. I think everyone should run out and get one of these immediately. And pick me one up while you’re at it, ok?
