I don’t know about you, but when it comes to summer beauty, I’m all about looking fresh-faced and natural. Who has time to fuss with a bunch of stuff that’s sure to melt off your face while chasing down rogue children at the pool?
I’ve got a few essentials that I keep on heavy rotation and the rest of my makeup products hibernate until fall.
1 Simple protecting moisturizer :: 2 Urban Decay Half Baked :: 3 Maybelline Volum’ Express The MegaPlush :: 4 Josie Maran argan color stick :: 5 Nutiva organic extra virgin coconut oil
My summer beauty routine always starts with a moisturizer with SPF. My favorite is Simple’s protecting moisturizer. It has an SPF of 15 and is really gentle on sensitive skin–both of which are key, especially during the summer months when my rosacea-afflicted cheeks are even more sensitive than usual thanks to heat and sun exposure.
Next, I like to sweep on a bronze eyeshadow. Subtle and shimmery, Urban Decay’s half baked is my absolute favorite at the moment. I’m usually a real cheapo when it comes to makeup (well, when it comes to most things really), but I splurged on this bad boy when I got a gift card to Sephora. And I have to tell you, it’s totally worth it.
Another must is waterproof mascara. Even if I’m heading to the pool with the girls, I always at least make sure to swipe on a little mascara. When I don’t, everyone tells me how tired I look. Add a little volume to my thin lashes with Maybelline Volum’ Express The MegaPlush and I’m good to go!
If I’m doing more than chasing giggly girls around outside (like say, going somewhere where a shirt is not optional), I usually like to put on a cream blush. It gives your skin a dewy, rosy look that’s perfect for summer. I’m a sucker for Josie Maran’s argan color stick. You can even use it on your lips if you need a little jolt of color there too.
At the end of the day, I take it all off with one of my favorite products: coconut oil. Seriously, it’s a miracle product deserving of a whole blog post of its own. But I rub it all over my face every night. It removes every last bit of my waterproof mascara and moisturizes my skin at the same time. Nutiva organic extra virgin coconut oil is a good one and you can buy it in large quantities on Amazon.
And that’s pretty much it. Sometimes there’s eyeliner and lip gloss, but most days this is all I need to feel like I can conquer the world.
