20 of the Best Signs from the Women’s March

Best Women's March Signs | I'm With Her via Business Insider

The millions of people who took to the streets all over the world this weekend in a show of solidarity for women’s rights (and, really, human rights) left me feeling energized and incredibly inspired. The fact that the Women’s March protests were peaceful and charged with positivity makes them even more powerful.

I got lost in the deepest depths of the internet looking at photos from marches all over the world and had to share some of my favorites. While there were plenty of giggle-inducing jabs at Donald  Trump, I decided to leave them out (well, except for the Supergirl one which doesn’t make fun of him as much as confront him). I truly believe that not resorting to spewing hate and name calling makes the message so much stronger.

Like Michelle Obama said “When they go low, we go high.”

Bad Ass Babes | #BadAssMoms Edition

thredUP's #badassmoms: Karina Linch

This post is sponsored by thredUP, but all opinions are mine.

Bad Ass Babes is a series that features women who have gone out into the universe and made it a better, more interesting place. These are the women who make the world go ’round. The women that our daughters need to know about and hear about and learn from.

It’s been a while since I’ve featured a nice, feisty bad ass babe. So instead of delivering you just one, I’ve partnered with thredUP (my favorite online secondhand clothes retailer) to celebrate the one year anniversary of their #badassmoms series.

Throughout the last year, #badassmoms has celebrated some incredible women who are defining a new norm. These ladies are making modern choices, building supportive communities, and turning their dreams into reality. The women featured have been from all over the country, with different points of view and different lifestyles. They’ve discussed topics from parenting to health to entrepreneurialism to life after loss, in a way that is brutally honest, and unapologetic. These ladies are true bad asses.

I picked three of my favorites to highlight here. What I love about these women is that they each figured out what they wanted in life and found a way to make it happen, no matter what the obstacles may be.

Bad Ass Babes | Celeste Barber

Ah, the pressures of school drop off. #celestechallengeaccepted #funny #victoriasecret

A post shared by Celeste Barber (@celestebarber) on Feb 7, 2016 at 12:39pm PST

Celeste Barber has been killing it lately. If you haven’t heard of her, she’s the 33-year-old Australian comic who posts hilarious parodies of celebrity pictures on Instagram (you know that’s sure to be a hit with this InstaAddict, right?). I won’t lie to you: at first, I thought maybe it was a little mean. The whole mercilessly poking fun at people thing didn’t seem to gel with my fierce belief in raising women up—until I realized that it totally does.

Celeste takes highly stylized, completely staged photos of some of the most beautiful women in the world and points out to us regular girls that they’re not real. Nothing about them. From the poses to the hair and make up, there is nothing natural about them. No matter how bad the girls in them might want you to believe it, they’re not candid shots. They’re specifically designed to show these women at their absolute best.

And pointing out that little fact again and again and again? It makes us mere mortals feel less terrible about ourselves in comparison. In fact, it makes us laugh our asses off at the ridiculous lengths some people will go to to get a flattering angle. And for that, she is a Bad Ass Babe.

Bad Ass Babes | Why Emma Watson is a Great Role Model for Girls

Emma Watson role model | Hermione Granger

Bad Ass Babes is a monthly series that features women who have gone out into the universe and made it a better, more interesting place. These are the women who make the world go ’round. The women that our daughters need to know about and hear about and learn from.

Emma Watson is pretty much the epitome of Bad Ass Babe. Not only is she a talented actress that I’m happy to see my girls look up to, but she has also chosen to use her voice to speak out for a cause she feels strongly about: feminism.

Let’s start from the beginning…

Bad Ass Babes | Essena O’Neill

Essena ONeill | happiness based on aesthetics

Bad Ass Babes is a monthly series that features women who have gone out into the universe and made it a better, more interesting place. These are the women who make the world go ’round. The women that our daughters need to know about and hear about and learn from.

I should start by saying that when I started this series last month, 18 year old Essena O’Neill was not at all the type of woman I envisioned myself featuring. Scientists and aid workers and intrepid explorers? Yes. Social media stars? Not so much.

But Essena changed the game entirely last week by quitting her popular and incredibly lucrative Instagram and YouTube accounts. She deleted 2,000 Instagram photos, changed her account name to “Social Media Is Not Real Life,” and recaptioned the remaining photos to reflect what was really going on when they were taken before eventually shutting down the account entirely.

Essena ONeill | happiness based on aesthetics“I had acne here, this is a lot of makeup. I was smiling because I thought I looked good. Happiness based on aesthetics will suffocate your potential here on earth.”

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
