Binge-Watching Season Is Upon Us!

binge-watching season

This post was sponsored by Klondike as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review but shoved them in my face all on my own.

I’m a little depressed (and, apparently, really dramatic). If you follow me on Instagram, you know that the girls and I have been obsessed with catching the sunset lately. We make sure we get down to the riverfront about a half hour before sunset so that we can watch the sun dip behind the mountains on the other side of the river.

I just Googled “sunset” to see what time we’d need to get there tonight and found that it sets at 4:48. 4:48! Curse you, daylight savings time!

I already feel myself sliding into hibernation mode. I want all of the cozy blankets, fuzzy socks, and comfort foods. And I don’t want to leave the house. I just want to curl up on my favorite spot on the couch and binge watch TV shows while nibbling a Klondike bar until there’s more sunlight and life on the trees again.

Girl Boss | Tiffany Aufmann of Dough and a Dear

Girl Boss Tiffany Aufmann of Dough and a Dear

Totally inspired by Sophia Amoruso’s book of the same name, Girl Boss is a series focused on fierce, determined women who go with their gut and create their dream businesses in the process.

Girl Boss Tiffany Aufmann of Dough and a Dear

I’ve been internet buds with Tiffany from Dough and a Dear for awhile now. She’s one of those people that I can’t for the life of me remember how I connected with, but I know I can count on her social media for a nice hunk of snarky reality and some giggles. Also, I can count on her to make me drool with pictures of her pretty doughnuts. It doesn’t matter that I can’t eat them (gluten, I’m fist shaking at you!). Just looking at them makes me happy.

As Tiffany launches a Kickstarter to take her doughnut biz out of her little kitchen and into a secondhand food truck, I thought it would be a great time to take a look at a total boss as she tries to uplevel her dream.

Treat Yo Self | Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

Treat Yo Self | homemade ice cream sandwich

Hey girl. Treat Yo Self is a series (inspired by my beloved Parks and Rec) that focuses on inexpensive indulgences that make you feel good without feeling guilty. Because when momma’s not happy, nobody is happy.

Most of the day I try really hard to fuel myself with healthy, clean foods. Yes, there are the occasional stress-induced dives into a bag of chocolate chips. Yes there is fro yo. A lot of fro yo. Still, most of the time I make good choices.

That said, when the sun sets, the girls are in bed and my husband and I are collapsed on the couch binge-watching TV shows, Momma wants some chocolate. Momma needs some chocolate.

Dark chocolate squares carried me through the winter but the other day I tried something new that has totally captured my heart. Even more impressive, it captured my husband’s heart too.

Local Love

Local Love | Peachwave (+ a giveaway!)

local love | peachwave

local love | peachwaveThe girls and I are completely obsessed with frozen yogurt right now. There’s been a crop of self serve places opening up in our area lately, but they all pale in comparison to our favorite: Peachwave.

With its bright and cheerful vibe, comfy seats, and shelves full of board games, once we get there we don’t want to leave. We would be perfectly happy sleeping in a pile of their bean bags and subsisting solely on froyo. And they’re not paying me to talk about this. We’re just that obsessed.

When we get there, the girls know just what to do…

Treat Yo Self | Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

treat yo self | homemade peanut butter cups

Treat Yo Self is a series that focuses on inexpensive indulgences that make you feel good without feeling guilty. Because when momma’s not happy, nobody is happy.

Guys, I have a problem when it comes to peanut butter cups. I think I always have. In college, my best friend and I were more than a little obsessed. We even started calling them lard cups, for some reason that escapes me at the moment. The point is, we were so close to peanut butter cups that we had a nickname for them.

Fast forward ten years. My metabolism is slower and child bearing has made hips that were already wide even wider. There is a pooch. There is a spare tire. I am working on these things, but I’ve realized there are some things I cannot deny myself. Chocolate is most definitely one of them. Cutting it off of my Can Eat list only makes me want it more and makes me binge harder when I inevitably slip up.

That said, I’ve found a few ways to make myself happy in the chocolate department in a healthier way. One of those ways is by making myself some bomb ass homemade peanut butter cups.

(Unrelated note: I almost edited the phrase bomb ass out since it’s not something I say regularly in conversation. Only these peanut butter cups are so good they deserve ridiculous emphasis. Also, if my husband happens to read this post that phrase will make him cringe. That means it stays.)

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
