Friday Link Round Up | Getting Back on Track

back to school and back on track

back to school and back on trackAh, back-to-school season.

My daughter starts school on Monday and I’m not going to lie, it can’t come fast enough. Don’t get me wrong, I love that girl to death but she needs structure. She needs to have a schedule and to know exactly what will be happening and to be busy and surrounded by other kids. She’s pretty much bored out of her mind at this point and driving me completely insane.

Also driving me completely insane is my inability to get anything done without being interrupted 97 times and then grumped at because I still haven’t completed task one. I’m hoping that with school starting up, I’ll be able to start a fresh, clean slate.

Am I the only one who gets all New Years Resolution-y in September? I suddenly want all of the organization. I want to clean and declutter and get my act together. I want to get back on track.

It just so happens that I noticed a bunch of posts across the blogosphere (and Pinterest) that centered around three of the things I want to work on the most.

5 Summer Beauty Essentials

Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen: Hearing of so many 20-somethings (and younger!) with skin cancer has made me an SPF nazi. I’m all about the sunscreen in the summer and whatever I layer onto my babies, I also layer on myself. This high SPF, tear free sunscreen is also fragrance and dye free which makes it even better in my opinion.

Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme: Summertime presents us ladies with a catch 22 of sorts. We get to where the strappy sandals and flip flops that we adore, but our feet take a serious beating. This foot creme can help you out. Slather some on before you go to bed and put on some cotton socks. Not only does it smell delicious and tropical, but your feet will be noticeable softer by morning.

Dove Roll On Deodorant: I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to worry about deodorant streaks when I go sleeveless during the summer. Whether clumped in your pit or all over your shirt, it’s definitely not an attractive sight. Roll-on deodorant eliminates that fear. This particular kind goes on completely clear from the start and works all day.

Josie Maran Argan Oil Color Stick: One thing that’s important to me during the summer is no fuss products. I want something that I can put on quickly as I’m running out the door. And if it can multitask and it’s all natural and full of antioxidants? Even better! This color stick adds a healthy pop of color to your lips and cheeks (I sometimes even use it on my eyes!) within seconds.

Burt’s Bees Sun Protecting Lip Balm: You can’t forget those lips, ladies! They can take a beating from the sun and one thing I do not want is sunburned lips. Burt’s Bees is my tried and true go to.

Do you use any essentials I may have missed? I’m always looking for newbies so your suggestions are more than welcome!!!

Om

As if the gloominess and bad hair that all this rain is bringing isn’t bad enough, it’s also making me increasingly lazy. I mean, really. Who wants to leave the house when it means getting soaked? Especially when it means wrapping up a newborn and trying to keep her warm and dry while your almost five-year old jumps in every puddle in sight.

But I said I was trying to find the positive in everything, right?

If the rain is going to prevent me from walking off my baby weight in the park, I’ll just have to scrape my ass off the couch and find something fabulous to do inside.

This afternoon I’m thinking yoga. Aside from being awesome in it’s own right, it’s something my daughter can actually do with me (her favorite is the tree pose and she can do it better than most adults). So while I stretch and tone my core, I can be sure she’s not off somewhere getting into trouble. Instead, she’ll be next to me giggling at my form.

What do you do to feel good in bad weather?

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
