Welcome to the Jungalow

indoor plants as home decor

My thumb may be black as a moonless night, but that doesn’t make me any less obsessive about plants. And, right now, I’m hardcore obsessing.

Maybe it’s emerging from the dreariness of a northeastern winter that does it. Or maybe it’s just the buds bursting on all of the trees outside my kitchen window. Whatever it is, it happens at this time every year. I desperately want to become a plant person.

Usually I focus on flowers for outside, but this year I decided that I want to turn my house into a jungalow. Inspired by Justina Blakeney and her magical bohemian spaces that are filled with color and layers and wild greenery, I want to go all out…

… so of course I had to window shop the internet for beautiful green interiors to draw inspiration from.

Have I made it clear enough that I’m done with winter?

Because I’ve had enough!

My hands are cracked and bleeding. My legs are looking mighty reptilian and I can faintly hear my flats crying from the back of my closet. Not cool, Mother Nature. Not cool.

I’ve been trying to force spring to hurry its lazy bones up by wearing bright springy colors whenever I remember. But that doesn’t seem to be enough. I think we’re going to have to move to phase two here, people.

A couple of my favorite bloggers have done posts recently that featured some pretty fabulous greenery (Hey Gloria! Hollerrrr Amanda!)–or at least some super cool containers for it. It totally got me thinking about forcing spring into my house with plants.

My problem? I have pretty much the blackest thumb ever. If it can’t be killed, I will kill it. Luckily for me, hearty succulents are all the rage right now and Etsy is absolutely bursting with adorably quirky little vessels to hold them in.

about the momma

Hi! I'm Jen, a freelance writer and girl mom who loves reading the newest children’s books as much as I love a good psychological thriller. I believe fiercely in the power of kindness, empathy, and really good quality chocolate. When I'm not knee-deep in glittery crafts and girl talk, you can probably find me sprawled out on my couch in the middle of a Netflix marathon with dark chocolate smeared on my face. The struggle is real. Learn more about me here.
