Orange Splot Art Spot: Westchester Girls Crafty Night Out

Orange Splot Art Spot: Westchester Crafty Girls Night OutTreat Yo Self is a series that focuses on inexpensive indulgences that make you feel good without feeling guilty. Because when momma’s not happy, nobody is happy.

Sometimes the best way to treat yourself is to get out and laugh your butt off with some of your favorite ladies. Nothing helps you get out of your own head (and your own way) better than some quality time with the girls who know you best. Contrary to popular belief, this does not have to involve a scroll-like bar tab.

A month or so ago my pal Janine and I had a girlie date at Orange Splot Art Spot’s Maker Night. It’s basically a crafty, adult only (BYOB) night out. It was glorious. $25 and glorious.

Those of you in the Westchester, NY area should totally check it out. If you’re not in the area, there are plenty of these sorts of nights cropping up all over the place. They’re on Groupon all of the time and a little digging is sure to find you something similar in or around your town.

Orange Splot Art Spot Maker Night | Crafty Girls Night OutThis particular event was a super laid back painting party—which was perfect for Janine and I. Let’s just say we are not experienced painters (unless nails count). We joked for weeks leading up to it about how terrible our paintings would turn out. I think we were pleasantly surprised that they weren’t nearly as awful as we expected.

When we got there, there were a couple of different sized canvases to choose from, a bunch of brushes, painter’s tape and a ton of paint (there was also a whole other table set up with typography stuff, but we never made it over there).

Justine (the owner) is much more into inspiring people (both adults and children) than giving step-by-step instructions. So this wasn’t one of those nights where everyone goes home with the exact same painting. Instead, she showed us what we had to work with and set us loose to go wild.

Janine and I grabbed some paint and brushes and just got to it. I had decided I wanted to paint something for the girls’ room so I stuck with pinks and purples so that it would fit in with their room.

It also has my brain working in overdrive about planning a crafty party this summer once we’ve got the backyard setup figured out.

If you’re interested in seeing how I took my painting and Justine’s typography ideas and turned it into Frozen wall art for the girls’ room, check back tomorrow for the DIY!
