When it comes to buying new things versatility is key in my book. If I’m going to drop money on something, you better believe there are a variety of different ways I can wear it and unlimited places where I can prance around in it. I’d much rather get rid of my debt or buy things for my girls than dump money on something with a limited shelf life.
That said, I decided to start a new series called Versatile Files which focuses on versatile pieces that can work for just about anyone just about anywhere. I enlisted the help of my super-talented sister, Michele Frechette, to come up with ideas and sketch out the looks for me.
Today we’re taking a look at the versatility of faux leather shorts.
I won’t lie to you. Leather shorts are not the first thing that come to mind when I think of the word versatile. Cute, maybe. Daring definitely. But versatile? Not so much. That is until my sister put together this sketch.
I can see how they’d work in different places now. Can’t you?
Pins and Needles tie neck blouse / Tarnish boiled wool cloche / Apt. 9 polka dot tights / Ecote Eliana double zip boot / Topshop faux leather shorts
Obviously this business look wouldn’t work in every office environment. If you have a corporate job you’ll have to leave the leather shorts at home from nine to five. Same goes for teachers. I’m not really sure these would work for you. 😉
But if you work in a more creative field, you can totally wear something like this. If you need to dress it up for a meeting, throw on a blazer and ditch the hat. Otherwise you’re good to go.
And I don’t know about you, but this outfit looks pretty comfy to me. I’d wear it out to brunch or dinner!
Sparkle & Fade silky step hem tank top / Urban Outfitters classic floppy hat / Nasty Gal comfort zone cardi / H&M canvas bag / Dolce Vita Java ankle boot / Topshop faux leather shorts
Speaking of comfort, this look proves leather can go lazy too. All you need is some laid back accessories. Pile on a cozy cardigan, no-fuss bag and floppy hat and you’re ready to tackle the weekend.
And I’m loving the spazz-proof booties. They’ve got a little height and cool strappy detail without looking like something that is sure to end in a face plant.
Nasty Gal pushing daisies blouse / Apt. 9 ombre control top tights / Steve Madden Vigilant bootie / Topshop faux leather shorts
Last but not least, leather shorts are definitely at home during a night out. Pair them with some killer booties (or, you know, a dramatically shorter pair if you’re anything like me), some fab tights (these are ombre!), and a bold shirt and you are ready to be the life of the party.
I’m loving the collar detail and floral print on that shirt, aren’t you?
Great outfits! The business one is my fave.

I don’t think my thighs are ready, but I love the trend!
I’d wear some if only I didn’t have native thighs!!!! Hahaha! Happy Chinese New Year from Malaysia Jen! 😀
I love the look but not for a woman older than 29.
Polka dot tights…Yes please!
